Coffee, then adulting
What
Coffee comes in many forms, the main thing here is quality. Of course I’m a proponent of consuming things that are grown with minimal chemicals.
Organic is a good way to go with coffee.
There are conspiracy theorists out there that have their doubts about anything organic. I have to say I’m one of them! Do your own research and trust but verify!
Fair Trade
So fair trade coffee is another consideration. Fair trade means that the coffee farmers in developing countries dont get screwed out of fair compensation.
Think of a shoe company using sweat shops to make sneakers. Fair trade is supposed to prevent that.
Buying fair trade coffee is supposed to promote higher social, economical, and environmental standards for the farmers.
Mushroom Coffee
You may remember me talking about mushroom coffee in some of my previous posts. If not check them out!

Mushroom coffee is my go to throughout the week. It’s not too high in caffeine and its supplemented with cognitive enhancing mushrooms like Lions Mane, Chaga, and Cordyceps.
Dont worry, these ‘shrooms won’t make you fail a drug test!
Now just because you’re drinking good coffee doesn’t mean you can down the stuff anytime and as much as you want!
When
Stop drinking coffee on your way into work!
You all are gonna hate me for this but coffee shortly after you wake up and early in the morning is doing more harm than good!
Just remember this, you’re conditioned to do certain things. You can break that cycle based on new information.
As a kid we always heard the jingle, “the best part of waking up, is…”.
You know the rest!
Like so many other things we get programmed into doing them a certain way that may not necessarily be the best way.
Best Time
Bottom line up front is that the best time to drink coffee is when your body’s cortisol levels are low.
What is cortisol?
Cortisol is called the “stress hormone”. Your body’s adrenal gland produces it.
This is the stress hormone because released in response to stress. It increases blood sugar to suppress your immune system and to help your metabomism.
Drinking coffee increases your cortisol levels. Therefore you want to drink coffee when your cortisol is low to boost cortisol and benefit from the full effect.
If you’re drinking coffee when your cortisol is already high then it blunts the effect of the coffee and leads to a higher dependency due to increased tolerance for coffee.
An increased tolerance means you need more and more coffee to feel the effects! You dont want that!
Timing
On average the peak production of cortisol in humans occurs between8am-9am, 12pm-1pm, and 530pm-630pm. Cortisol also peaks 30 minutes after you wake up!
During these times your body is naturally caffinating itself! You dont need coffee!
If you’re drinking when your cortisol is high you increase your tolerance and can also mess up your circadian rhythm which regulates sleep cycles!
Ideally you should drink your coffee between 930am-1130am and 130pm-5pm. This is when your cortisol dips and you’ll get the most benefits while avoiding increased tolerance.
Now the trick is switching that dependent comfortable habit of drinking coffee first thing in the morning.
Are you strong enough to try something new?
Why
Coffee is a performance enhancing drug.
Drinking coffee gives you a competitive advantage. It gives you focus and energy.
Some studies also say that drinking coffee helps protect against type 2 diabetes, helps people with Parkinson’s, and lowers the risk of liver cancer!
Coffee has also been shown to promote brain health and is a powerful antioxidant.
How
Ok, everyone technically knows how to drink coffee!
Basically you just need to know how much coffee you should be drinking.
Its said that you should drink less than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day. That’s about 4 cups of coffee if each cup has 100 milligrams of caffeine.
Remember, 4 cups is a maximum!
You dont even need that much. My rule is that I drink a cup a day. Some days I take a day off just because.
If you’re drinking coffee when your cortisol is low like I mentioned before you won’t feel the need to drink a lot of caffeine.
It may be hard to shake the four or more cup a day habit but that means you’ve developed a dependance.
You need to shake that.
Lower your caffeine by drinking it at the optimal times.
Mushroom coffee that I drink is only 50 milligrams per cup and one cup a day is good for me. That’s another benefit of mixing coffee with cognitive enhancers. You dont need as much caffeine to get right!
In Summation
-Drink fairtrade organic coffeewhen you can (try mushroom coffee)
-Drink when cortisol is low. Between 930a-1130a and between 130pm-5pm.
-Coffee can help fight and prevent some nasty diseases.
-Dont over do it! You won’t need to if you drink at the right times!
I love coffee almost as much as talking about wealth, health, and wellness!

Just HMU, I’ll be around!
